Understanding Your Car's Warning Lights

Which dashboard lights mean pull over now, which mean book a service soon, and which you can note and mention next visit.
Stop driving / pull over safely: oil pressure warning, engine overheating, brake system failure, charging system failure (on some vehicles).
Book service within days: check engine light (steady, no drivability issues), ABS light, tire pressure warning, coolant level low.
Note and monitor: fuel-related reminders, service-due indicators, washer fluid.
A flashing check engine light indicates active misfire severe enough to overheat the catalytic converter — treat it as urgent. A steady light usually allows normal driving while you arrange diagnosis.
Never clear fault codes yourself before diagnosis: they contain valuable clues for whoever inspects the car.
