Fuel Consumption Calculator
Work out how much fuel your car actually uses. Enter the distance driven and the fuel you filled up, and get your consumption in L/100 km, US and UK MPG, and km/L instantly.
How it works
Consumption is distance divided by fuel used: L/100 km = fuel ÷ distance × 100. MPG values are converted using 235.21 (US gallon) and 282.48 (imperial gallon) litres per gallon factors.
Frequently asked questions
How is L/100 km calculated?
Divide the litres of fuel used by the distance driven in kilometres, then multiply by 100. For example 7 litres over 100 km gives 7.0 L/100 km.
What is the difference between US and UK MPG?
A US gallon is 3.785 litres while an imperial (UK) gallon is 4.546 litres, so the same vehicle shows a higher MPG figure using the imperial gallon.
How do I measure fuel consumption accurately?
Fill the tank, note the odometer, drive normally, then refill and divide the fuel added by the distance travelled. Repeating this over several tanks gives a reliable average.
