MPG & Fuel Economy Converter

Compare fuel economy figures no matter which unit they are shown in. Enter a value and its unit to see the equivalent in L/100 km, US MPG, UK MPG and km/L at once.

How it works

All conversions pass through litres per 100 km: 235.215 ÷ L/100 km gives US MPG, 282.481 ÷ L/100 km gives UK MPG, and 100 ÷ L/100 km gives km/L. Higher L/100 km means worse economy.

Frequently asked questions

Why are there two different MPG values?

The US gallon (3.785 L) and the imperial or UK gallon (4.546 L) are different sizes, so the same car shows a higher number in UK MPG.

Which MPG do car magazines quote in Europe?

European publications and manufacturers almost always quote L/100 km. MPG is common in the US, the UK, Canada and Australia.
