Fuel Price Trip Planner

Find out whether driving to a cheaper station actually saves money. Enter your trip, the price difference and the detour distance — the calculator tells you if the detour is worth it.

How it works

Savings = trip fuel × price difference. The detour burns fuel too: extra litres = detour km ÷ 100 × consumption. If net benefit is positive, the detour pays for itself; otherwise fill up on the route. Short trips and small price gaps rarely justify a long detour.

Frequently asked questions

Why is a detour often not worth it?

A 10 km round trip at 6.5 L/100 km burns over 0.6 litres just to get there. If the price difference is small, the fuel you burn detouring can exceed what you save.

When is it clearly worth it?

Large price gaps (10% or more), high fuel capacity, and very short detours. Filling a 50 L tank with a 0.20/L saving saves about 10 currency units — usually worth a short detour.
