Tire Age Calculator
The last four digits of the DOT code tell you when the tire was made (e.g. 3519 = week 35 of 2019). Enter the code to calculate the tire age and whether it should be inspected or replaced.
How it works
Look for "DOT" on the sidewall, then read the last four digits before the end of the code: first two = week, last two = year. Tires degrade from age even with tread remaining; many manufacturers recommend replacement after 6 years and mandatory after 10.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the DOT code on my tire?
On the sidewall, usually on the inner or outer face. It starts with "DOT" followed by letters and numbers; the last four digits before the moulding end are the date.
My tires have plenty of tread but are 8 years old — replace?
Most tire makers recommend replacing tires at 6 years regardless of tread, and all tires no later than 10 years. Age hardens the rubber and reduces grip.
